A house (not really) by the lake
Baan Chuancheun is located right at the tip of the lake in Chuancheun Floraville Village. It is not really by the lake. There is no lake view from the ground floor. Moreover, the plot is next to a public park area of the village where privacy can easily be breached.
The house is designed to, oppositely, celebrate these limited conditions. Living spaces are elevated to the second floor to open up the whole ground floor space as one big gated garden. This also help to escape possible flooding. The living pavilion floats above the garden, taking both sunrise and sunset view while being protected by the cantilevered hip roof.
The zig-zag walls of the bedroom wing turn the interior space towards the lake while providing privacy both from the neighbors and the living pavilion of the house itself. Its straightforward configuration also creates unique rhythm of light, shade and shadow.
