The Glass Cafe' and Restaurant

Chumphon, Thailand

a glass-house cafe'

The Glass is the first building in a compound of s restaurants on a linear plot in downtown Chumphon. The plot sits right at an inter-section, with a road runs along its 150 meters length. This creates a continuous view towards the compound from both ends, with the town itself as a foreground and a background from both directions.

The three buildings are designed to create a continuous outline through its gradient of scale. The Glass is a café and bakery with the smallest footprint but the tallest in height. It is the only building in the compound with 2 floors which are connected through a spiral staircase which formed the bar area. The Western restaurant and the Japanese restaurant, which will be built in the next phase, have footprints which are gradually bigger and their heights are gradually lower. This creates 3 different interior spaces and exterior apper-ances, a glass-house Café, a Western dining hall and a cozy Izakaya.
