3 Walls and a Roof

A barbeque is always a celebration. A coming together. A feast where people are brought together around a bonfire. There is never a need of a building but always a need for an open space. The bigger it is, the bigger the fire, the bigger the feast.

Umi Gyu is designed to create that feast spirit by creating one big columnless room where people come together around several mini-sets of fire. In order for the feast to continue uninterruptedly, there is a need for the space to at least have a protection in the form of a roof. It is made at an exact 45 degree angle, steep enough to create one big space without a column and not too steep to be considered a wall. The result is a triangular tube, with a triangle front façade which creates a visual landmark, a sense of a party being held, a stop to be made.

Some says architecture is just four walls and a roof, In this case, perhaps,

three is enough.
